WHEREAS, in 2016, Beville Middle School in Prince William County proudly celebrates 25 years of educating a diverse student body and promoting a culture of success; and

WHEREAS, Beville Middle School opened in 1991 and serves a culturally diverse student population; the staff and students are proud of being part of an engaged community which is committed to offering a positive and balanced approach to all students; and

WHEREAS, Beville Middle School is named for Stuart M. Beville, who served as superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools from 1954 to 1971; during his tenure, 30 schools opened in the county and the student population grew from 3,500 to more than 35,000; and

WHEREAS, currently, Beville Middle School enrolls 1,150 students from the Dale City area; the school, whose mascot is a bobcat, is home to an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and also offers after-school athletics and clubs, including dance and Step teams, a Model United Nations group, a robotics club, the EDGE club, a theatrical society, and a cinema club; and

WHEREAS, one of the most popular events at Beville Middle School is the Multicultural and Academic Showcase in March in which students and their families celebrate their diverse cultures and backgrounds; students show their families what they have been learning in class; and

WHEREAS, the Effective Schoolwide Discipline policy focuses on encouraging student behavior that contributes to improved academic performance and social behavior; Beville Middle School has adopted the PROWL slogan, encouraging students to be Positive, Respectful, Outstanding, Working Leaders; and

WHEREAS, a small creek runs behind the Beville Middle School property and one of the school’s most popular clubs is the Stream Clean-Up group; members meet several times a year to remove trash and debris from the stream, and the group helps beautify the school grounds; and

WHEREAS, the Beville Middle School community promotes a culture of success by being fair and consistent and by supporting, encouraging, and collaborating with each other; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Beville Middle School on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 2016 of promoting a culture of success for all students; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim Keenan, principal of Beville Middle School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and admiration for the school’s outstanding work on behalf of the students of Prince William County.
