Commending Ken Tuck, M.D.

WHEREAS, Ken Tuck, M.D., a respected ophthalmologist who served the Roanoke community for more than 50 years, retired in December 2014; and

WHEREAS, Ken Tuck learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age while working on his family’s farm in Bedford County; he earned a medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to the members of the Roanoke community, Dr. Tuck opened a private ophthalmology practice in 1964 and later joined Vistar Eye Center; he earned a reputation for professionalism, compassion, and unsurpassed care for his patients; and

WHEREAS, well-known in his field, Dr. Tuck served as president of the Medical Society of Virginia and the American Academy of Ophthalmology; he earned state and national recognition for his good work and consulted with government officials on health care policy; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuck ensured that his patients received treatment of the highest quality, adopting and mastering new technologies and techniques throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Tuck cultivated a lifelong appreciation of fine art and shared that passion with his patients by decorating his office with beautiful artwork, which he considered reminders of the importance of good eyesight; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Ken Tuck, M.D., on the occasion of his retirement from ophthalmological practice; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ken Tuck, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his service to the Roanoke community and best wishes for a well-earned retirement.
