2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, after leading the University of Virginia baseball team to victory in the National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament championship in 2015, Brian O’Connor was named coach of the year by multiple outlets for his exceptional leadership; and
WHEREAS, Brian O’Connor inspired the young team to overcome injuries to play its best games in the postseason; the team won its sixth regional championship in seven years on the way to claiming the program’s first national title; and
WHEREAS, Brian O’Connor and the University of Virginia Cavaliers went 10–2 in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament and became the third team in the finals era to win the championship after losing the first game in the final series; and
WHEREAS, Brian O’Connor increased his career record to 558–201–2 with the Cavaliers’ 44–24 record in 2015; it was the team’s 10th 40-win season in 12 years and its 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his contributions to the Cavaliers’ victorious season, Brian O’Connor was named coach of the year by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, D1 Baseball, and Perfect Game USA; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Brian O’Connor on receiving coach of the year honors from multiple outlets after leading the University of Virginia baseball team to the 2015 NCAA national championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brian O’Connor as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his achievements and best wishes in his future endeavors.
