1. That § 56-245.1:2 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 56-245.1:2. Customers to be notified of renewable power options.
Beginning January 1, 2009, at At least
once each calendar quarter, each investor-owned electric utility in the
Commonwealth shall include in or on the customer bills a notice directing them
to a toll-free telephone number or Internet
website that will provide information on the all options available to purchase electric
energy both provided from renewable
energy sources by the utility and 100 percent renewable
energy sources from the utility or from any supplier of
electric energy licensed to sell retail electric energy within the applicable
service territory, pursuant to subdivision A 5 of § 56-577. The notice shall
include instructions for purchasing electric energy from both
renewable sources provided by the
utility and 100 percent renewable energy sources
from the utility or other licensed supplier of electric energy, as well as information on each type
and approximate percentage of renewable resource used to fulfill each option's
electricity generation and the location of each generating source.
The option shall be exercisable, at the customer's option, either via the
company's Internet website or toll-free
telephone number. Each investor-owned electric utility shall also feature
available options for purchasing electric energy from both renewable sources and 100 percent renewable
energy sources prominently on its Internet site website.
