SENATE BILL NO. 458 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the Senate Committee on Education and Health on February 11, 2016) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Senator McEachin) A BILL to direct the Board of Education to establish guidelines for alternatives to suspension.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Board of Education shall establish guidelines for alternatives to short-term and long-term suspension for consideration by local school boards. Such alternatives may include positive behavior incentives, mediation, peer-to-peer counseling, community service, and other intervention alternatives.
