2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Journal of Law and the Public Interest has been the scholarly voice for issues pertaining to public policy, social welfare, and a broad spectrum of jurisprudence for 20 years; and
WHEREAS, first published by the University of Richmond School of Law in 1996, the Journal of Law and the Public Interest released its 19th volume in 2015; and
WHEREAS, the Journal of Law and the Public Interest comprises discussion and analysis of public interest law and policy from the University of Richmond law students, who are committed to engaging the legal community; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 2008, the Journal of Law and the Public Interest has published the General Assembly in Review, a collection of scholarly articles devoted solely to important legislation from the General Assembly session; it is the only legal journal in the Commonwealth to devote an entire issue to the Virginia General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the General Assembly in Review issue is to provide a forum for the public to examine the lawmaking process of Virginia and spark conversation on future legislation and policy; many delegates and senators contribute articles to the issue, analyzing important matters from each session; and
WHEREAS, with the hard work of the Journal of Law and the Public Interest staff and the contributions of the legal and political community, the General Assembly in Review is a critical inquiry into the lawmaking process of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the Journal of Law and the Public Interest hopes to continue this tradition of providing insight into the workings of the Virginia General Assembly through the General Assembly in Review issue for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Journal of Law and the Public Interest hereby be commended on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Journal of Law and the Public Interest as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the publication’s insightful analysis and commitment to serving the public.
