2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Wilbur Macon Whitson of Virginia Beach, a civil engineer for the United States Navy, a proud veteran of the United States military who served in World War II, and a devoted husband and father, died in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Wilbur “Whit” Macon Whitson was a native of Norfolk; in 1943, when he was 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country during World War II; and
WHEREAS, at the end of his active duty military service, Whit Whitson then earned a bachelor’s degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now known as Virginia Tech, and was a member of the Corps of Cadets; and
WHEREAS, throughout the rest of his life, Whit Whitson remained a strong supporter of the university and an avid fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies; and
WHEREAS, Whit Whitson, who spent his professional career as a civil engineer, was employed by several engineering firms in the Hampton Roads area; he retired from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command - Atlantic Division; and
WHEREAS, Whit Whitson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Marcella; children, Macon and John; and many other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Wilbur Macon Whitson, a civil engineer, veteran of the United States military, and a devoted husband and father; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wilbur Macon Whitson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
