Celebrating the life of Quentin Thomas Alcorn.

WHEREAS, Quentin Thomas Alcorn, a rising fourth-year student at the University of Virginia and a loving and beloved son, brother, teammate, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him, died on June 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a Richmond native, Quentin “Quent” Thomas Alcorn was a soft-spoken, natural leader who cultivated his skills as a member of Indian Guides and the Boy Scouts of America, where he made many lifelong friendships; and

WHEREAS, Quent Alcorn was elected by his fellow Scouts to serve as senior patrol leader, earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, and led an expedition to Philmont Scout Ranch; from fly fishing trips on the headwaters of Atlantic Creek to the summit of Mt. Rainier to sailing on Fishing Bay, he was always quick to lend a helping hand and ever ready to tackle any challenge; and

WHEREAS, Quent Alcorn was a 2012 graduate of Saint Christopher’s School, which he attended from junior kindergarten to upper school; he was a leader inside and outside of the classroom, excelling in both academics and athletics; and

WHEREAS, at Saint Christopher’s School, Quent Alcorn discovered a passion for wrestling; inspiring teammates and coaches through his determination and fortitude, he claimed the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state championship title for two consecutive years and was selected as captain of the varsity team; and

WHEREAS, Quent Alcorn also developed a love for the study of chemistry, which led him to major in chemical engineering at the University of Virginia, where he became president of Theta Chi Fraternity and imparted his love of fellowship and sense of community to his brothers; and

WHEREAS, possessed of a servant’s soul, Quent Alcorn made community service a high priority by volunteering to help coach wrestling at Saint Christopher’s School and Albemarle High School and working at Madison House; and

WHEREAS, the over 1,000 mourners who gathered at Quent Alcorn’s memorial service at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Richmond on June 18, 2015, as well as those who gathered to celebrate his life at the University of Virginia, are a testament to the profound influence Quent Alcorn has had on the lives of so many people; and

WHEREAS, Quent Alcorn will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by myriad loving family members, friends, and admirers, including his parents, Peter Scott and Marcia Daley Alcorn; his paternal grandfather, Quentin G. Alcorn; his maternal grandfather, Thomas P. Daley; and especially his brother, Christian Barrett Alcorn, who enjoyed his friendship and always looked to his example for guidance; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved member of the Richmond and University of Virginia communities and a true Virginia gentleman, Quentin Thomas Alcorn; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Quentin Thomas Alcorn in celebration of a life well lived and as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
