HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 42 Commending Goochland County Public Schools.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 15, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Goochland County Public Schools was named an Apple Distinguished Program for 2015 - 2017 for its efforts to facilitate deeper learning by providing students with a tablet computer; and

WHEREAS, the Apple Distinguished Program award recognizes schools that demonstrate innovation, leadership, and educational excellence; Goochland County Public Schools provided each student in its tablet program with an iPad to enhance the system’s exceptional learning environment; and

WHEREAS, the 1:1 iPad program at Goochland County Public Schools began in the 2013 - 2014 school year as a pilot program for grades three through five at Goochland Elementary School; in the 2014 - 2015 school year, the program expanded to include grades four through seven at all schools and will include grades three and eight at all schools by the 2015 - 2016 school year; and

WHEREAS, Goochland County Public Schools’ visionary iPad program has allowed students to engage with material in new and different ways and created unparalleled opportunities for students to learn and grow; and

WHEREAS, the Goochland County Public Schools iPad program has facilitated the use of innovative applications and individualized assignments to suit student needs; it has also helped teachers design projects supported by social learning; and

WHEREAS, Goochland County Public Schools is at the forefront of education; the district has been ranked one of the best in the Commonwealth and earned national recognition for its use of data to improve learning and communicate with the school community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Goochland County Public Schools hereby be commended on being named a 2015 - 2017 Apple Distinguished Program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James Lane, superintendent of Goochland County Public Schools, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the school district’s commitment to innovation in the learning process and support for its students.
