Commending the Lord Botetourt High School football team.

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School football team enjoyed an outstanding 2015 season and became the school’s first squad to be a finalist for the Virginia High School League Group 3A football championship, after decisively winning the semi-final game on December 5, 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School Cavaliers defeated a talented team from Hopewell High School 28 - 17 and advanced to the state championship—the Daleville team’s first appearance in the title game; and

WHEREAS, in the semi-final game, which was played at the Lord Botetourt High School football team’s home field, a standing-room-only audience energized the players; the Cavaliers dominated the field early on and led 28 - 3 by halftime; and

WHEREAS, the first score in the action-packed first half occurred when Lord Botetourt Cavalier Garrison Mayo intercepted a Hopewell High School pass and ran 80 yards for a touchdown; and

WHEREAS, the four touchdowns made by the Lord Botetourt High School Cavaliers all happened in the first half; the Hopewell High School Blue Devils mounted a determined comeback effort in the second half, but were unable to overcome the Cavaliers’ lead; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School football team’s stellar accomplishments in the 2015 season were due to the hard work, focus, and talent of the players, who were guided by head coach Jamie Harless and his dedicated staff; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt High School Cavaliers were strongly supported by their families, friends, and the entire school community; the fan base also contributed to the team’s success, especially in the postseason when the team had three consecutive wins at home; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lord Botetourt High School football team hereby be commended for becoming a finalist for the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 3A football championship after winning the 2015 semi-final game; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jamie Harless, head coach of the Lord Botetourt High School football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the team’s impressive efforts and exceptional season.
