2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Seldon Wright, a senior at Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, claimed an individual title in the Virginia High School League Group 6A wrestling state championships in February 2015; and
WHEREAS, ending a 40-year championship drought for Oscar F. Smith High School’s wrestling program, Seldon Wright took first place in the 160-pound weight category at the state final; and
WHEREAS, the state final victory capped Seldon Wright’s impressive high school wrestling career; he had previously placed seventh and third at earlier state finals and placed fifth at the 2014 National High School Coaches Association Junior Nationals; and
WHEREAS, Seldon Wright was named 2015 Chesapeake Athlete of the Year for wrestling and was named an Academic All-American; he plans to attend Old Dominion University, where he will continue to pursue his passion for wrestling; and
WHEREAS, Seldon Wright joined many other talented wrestlers on the Oscar F. Smith High School wrestling team, which had a successful season under the able leadership of head coach Donald Motley; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Seldon Wright hereby be commended on placing first in the Virginia High School League Group 6A wrestling state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Seldon Wright as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his accomplishments.
