HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 34 Commending the Hickory High School wrestling team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 15, 2016

 

WHEREAS, the Hickory High School wrestling team from Chesapeake crowned two individual state champions to finish third overall at the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championships in February 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Hickory Hawks’ Connor Wallace was named state champion in the 126-pound weight class, finishing with a 38 - 2 record, and Anthony Amendolare was named state champion in the 132-pound weight class with a 36 - 4 record; and

WHEREAS, Connor Wallace and Anthony Amendolare are the first Hickory High School wrestlers to win state titles; and

WHEREAS, Steven Midkiff was the runner-up in the 145-pound weight class and finished with an overall record of 36 - 1; the Hickory Hawks finished with 52 points overall to claim third place in team competition; and

WHEREAS, the Hickory High School victories are a testament to the skill and determination of the wrestlers, the guidance of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Hickory High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hickory High School wrestling team hereby be commended on having two individual state champions at the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championships; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ben Summerlin, head coach of the Hickory High School wrestling team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements.
