Commending James Edward Lindsey, Sr.

WHEREAS, James Edward Lindsey, Sr., the founder of Lindsey Brothers, Inc., a longstanding plumbing and heating company in Hampton Roads, and an admired member of the community, celebrated his 85th birthday in 2015; and

WHEREAS, born on April 7, 1930, as the third of nine children, James Lindsey learned the value of hard work and responsibility at a young age as a farm hand; reared in Princess Anne County, he had learned to drive a tractor by age 11 and quickly began teaching his skills to others; and

WHEREAS, James Lindsey left school early to help support his family and pursued employment as a plumber’s assistant in Norfolk; he attended vocational school at night and became a skilled craftsman under the tutelage of several local plumbers; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to his country, James Lindsey joined the United States Army then the United States Army Reserve, where he attained the rank of sergeant; he also worked at military bases in Hampton Roads as a civil service employee and continued his technical training to become a master plumber; and

WHEREAS, a man of vision, James Lindsey used his extensive experience to establish what would become Lindsey Brothers, Inc., with his parents, siblings, and other family members; the plumbing and heating company has become a Hampton Roads institution, serving the community for more than 43 years and providing jobs to generations of local residents; and

WHEREAS, in 1956, James Lindsey married his wife, Nola, and the couple went on to raise 10 children; a loving husband and father, James Lindsey strove to maintain a balance between his work and home lives, while still actively serving the community through numerous local civic organizations; and

WHEREAS, James Lindsey lives his faith through his actions and enjoys fellowship and worship with the community as a member of the Garden of Prayer Temple Church of God in Christ, where he has held several leadership positions, including deacon, usher, and finance committee member; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That James Edward Lindsey, Sr., a hardworking business owner and a respected member of the Hampton Roads community hereby be commended on the occasion of his 85th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to James Edward Lindsey, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his service to the Hampton Roads community and the Commonwealth.
