2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, for more than 33 years, the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative has worked to enhance the quality of life in Northern Virginia by providing reliable, high-quality electric power services and responsible community leadership; and
WHEREAS, with a service area of more than 651 square miles, encompassing parts of Clarke, Fairfax, Fauquier, Loudoun, Prince William, and Stafford Counties, the City of Manassas Park, and the Town of Clifton, the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) is one of the largest electric cooperatives in the United States; and
WHEREAS, NOVEC, which is customer-owned, serves more than 160,000 residents, schools, businesses, government facilities, and data centers; since 1983 the number of metered customers has more than quadrupled; and
WHEREAS, outstanding customer service is a high priority for NOVEC, and the cooperative has been consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation, earning numerous awards and accolades; according to statistics used in the electric utility industry, for 16 consecutive years NOVEC has been the most reliable electricity provider in the Washington, D.C., area; and
WHEREAS, NOVEC is a leader in innovative technology, which has allowed the cooperative to better inform customers on energy usage and to provide secure business transactions and increased responsiveness to outages, thereby improving overall efficiency; and
WHEREAS, NOVEC has also strengthened the community through its profit-sharing program, with current and former customers receiving more than $293 million since 2000, through its role as a founding partner of the Hylton Performing Arts Center, and through annual donations to more than 100 local organizations and local chapters of national organizations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative hereby be commended for 33 years of exceptional service to the residents of Northern Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the cooperative’s continuing contributions to the region.
