2016 SESSION
16106034DWHEREAS, the Fauquier High School academic team claimed its first state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A Scholastic Bowl state tournament on February 27, 2016; and
WHEREAS, known as the “FHS Fighting Nerds,” the Fauquier High School academic team finished the 2015 - 2016 season with a perfect 23 - 0 record; and
WHEREAS, in the state tournament final, which was held at The College of William & Mary, the Fauquier High School academic team and the other competitors answered questions about literature, music, art, history, geography, current events, pop culture, science, and mathematics; and
WHEREAS, the Fauquier High School academic team bested talented teams from Sherando High School, Smithfield High School, and Eastern View High School to secure the victory; and
WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the hard work and intelligence of the students—Jeremy Alexander, Shelby Bush, Angelle Marshall, Joel McGuire, Chris Parios, Niles Ribeiro, and Mark Wiedenfeld—the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Fauquier High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Fauquier High School academic team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A Scholastic Bowl state tournament; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Liz Monseur, head coach of the Fauquier High School academic team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes for the future.
