2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Landon R. Worsham, an outstanding member of the Chatham community, has made many positive contributions to the area and Chatham Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years; and
WHEREAS, a longtime first responder, Landon Worsham served with the Chatham Ambulance Service and was a charter member of its successor organization, the Chatham Rescue Squad; and
WHEREAS, Landon Worsham was also the longtime Chief of the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, a position he held for more than 50 years; he willingly contributed his time and talents to safeguarding the community, and considered it a privilege to do so; and
WHEREAS, in addition to serving the people of Chatham as a member of the rescue squad and volunteer fire department, Landon Worsham made many valuable contributions to the surrounding area as a member and vice president of the Pittsylvania County Fire-Rescue Association; and
WHEREAS, Landon Worsham is a proud veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army Air Force; he was wounded in New Guinea and was awarded a Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, a man of faith, Landon Worsham is a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church, where he has held several leadership positions; as a deacon, elder, and treasurer, he provided thoughtful advice and guidance; and
WHEREAS, Landon Worsham is a long-serving Sunday school superintendent at Chatham Presbyterian Church and has overseen the Christian education program for more than 50 years; and
WHEREAS, a small-business owner, Landon Worsham has been an active member of the Chatham Lions Club and the Chatham Jaycees, who honored him with their Spark Plug award in 1959; additionally, he received the Citizenship Award from the Chatham Chamber of Commerce in 1977; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, Landon Worsham was feted by the community for his service to the Chatham area, including his six decades as a member of the Chatham Volunteer Fire Department; he also received a national Daily Points of Light Award in 2013; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Landon R. Worsham hereby be commended for his commitment and dedication to the community and Chatham Presbyterian Church; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Landon R. Worsham as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for his inspiring leadership and tireless service.
