16106140DWHEREAS, Gregory Hood, who has extensive experience in the Fairfax County Public School System, became principal of James Madison High School on November 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, most recently, Gregory “Greg” Hood was principal of Thoreau Middle School; his transition to the top position at James Madison High School was made easier because more than two-thirds of its students previously attended Thoreau Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Greg Hood earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Baltimore, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and certification in administration and supervision from George Mason University; and
WHEREAS, Greg Hood’s professional journey to the position of principal at James Madison High School was a roundabout one; he was the first member of his family to attend college and worked as an accountant for several years before returning to school to pursue a career in education, then in 1996 he began working for Fairfax County Public Schools as a middle-school teacher and counselor; and
WHEREAS, Greg Hood also served as a test-administration specialist, instructional employment specialist, student-services director, assistant principal, and coordinator for student counseling and college success before becoming principal at Thoreau Middle School; and
WHEREAS, at James Madison High School, Greg Hood is happy to see his former middle-school students in the halls and classrooms and on the athletic fields; they have grown and, like most of their fellow students, are immersed in academics and activities as they work toward a diploma and prepare for the next stage of their lives; and
WHEREAS, as he settles into his new role as principal of James Madison High School, Greg Hood plans to focus on rigor, relevance, and relationships; he also wants to continue to establish in his students a mindset that will prepare them for the road ahead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Gregory Hood hereby be commended for being named principal of James Madison High School in Vienna; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Gregory Hood as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for his commitment to education and his dedication to the students and staff of James Madison High School.
