HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 216 Commending the Honaker High School academic team.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 10, 2016

 

WHEREAS, the Honaker High School academic team claimed its second state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 1A Scholastic Bowl state tournament in 2016; and

WHEREAS, the Honaker High School academic team has enjoyed a long and successful history; the team has won 18 Black Diamond District championships, advanced to the regional tournament 18 times and the state tournament 14 times, and won one previous state title in 2014; and

WHEREAS, in the 2015 - 2016 season, the Honaker High School academic team went on a 20-game winning streak to finish the season with a 28 - 7 record, also winning the Crooked Road Conference tournament and the Group 1A West regional tournament to advance to the state championship; and

WHEREAS, in the final game of the state tournament, the Honaker High School academic team outscored the team from Galileo Magnet High School 95 - 15 to secure the victory; and

WHEREAS, each member of the Honaker High School academic team—Heath Hubbard, Caleb Perkins, Aidan Cook, Madison Ramsey, Holly Lester, Beth Mitchell, and Makayla Shortt—contributed to the successful season; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Honaker High School academic team also benefited from the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, including former head coach Alex Zachwieja, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Honaker High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Honaker High School academic team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Group 1A Scholastic Bowl state tournament in 2016; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Charlie Perkins, head coach of the Honaker High School academic team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s achievements and best wishes.
