16106127DWHEREAS, Deputy Chris Sigley received the Medal of Merit from the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office for his selfless, life-saving efforts to rescue a man who had fallen into a creek while attempting to elude police; and
WHEREAS, on November 18, 2015, Deputy Sigley and two other deputies of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office were alerted that the suspect of a violent crime was fleeing from the direction of Mathews County on Route 14; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sigley witnessed the suspect’s vehicle crash into a guardrail over Fox Mill Run Creek; the driver attempted to elude the law-enforcement officers by jumping into the creek, but was overcome in deep water; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sigley courageously dove into the water and helped pull the unconscious man to shore with the assistance of the other two deputies; and
WHEREAS, Deputy Sigley, a 14-year veteran of the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office, is an exemplar of the bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty demonstrated by law-enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Deputy Chris Sigley hereby be commended on receiving the Medal of Merit from the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office for his life-saving actions in November 2015; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Deputy Chris Sigley as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his dedicated service to the residents of Gloucester County and the Commonwealth.
