Commending the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

WHEREAS, in 2016 Virginia Peninsula Foodbank will celebrate its 30th anniversary of providing food assistance, nutrition, and education to residents of the nine cities and counties across the greater Virginia Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank was established in 1986 as a branch of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the original Virginia Peninsula Foodbank was located at 9912 Hosier Street in Newport News; it moved to its present location at 2401 Aluminum Avenue in Hampton in April 2011; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank’s programs include the Agency Distribution program, the BackPack program, the Culinary Training program, the Emergency Food Box program, the Grocery Rescue program, the Kids Cafe program, the Mobile Food Pantry program, and the S.H.A.R.E. program; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank serves 74,000 food-insecure individuals and others annually across the greater Virginia Peninsula; and

WHEREAS, since 1986, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has distributed more than 164 million pounds of food, equal to 137 million meals; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank has earned a “4-Star” rating for more than 10 consecutive years from Charity Navigator, indicating its financial efficiency and effectiveness as well as accountability and transparency; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank’s mission statement is “to distribute food effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition, and encourage self-reliance through education”; it has succeeded in its mission thanks to the hard work and dedication of its leadership, staff, and volunteers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Virginia Peninsula Foodbank hereby be commended on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Peninsula Foodbank as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for its dedicated service to the residents of the greater Virginia Peninsula.
