16105460DWHEREAS, John Alderson, a native of Botetourt County, has dedicated his life to the service of others as an advocate for education, a trusted insurance professional and small-business owner, and a respected civil servant; and
WHEREAS, as a longtime member of the Botetourt County School Board and a board member of the Botetourt County Education Foundation, John Alderson has worked to create new opportunities for the young people of the Roanoke region; he helped establish the Alderson Family Scholarships, which are presented annually to two first-generation college students; and
WHEREAS, John Alderson has also served the community as the owner of John Alderson Agency in Daleville for more than 50 years; the insurance agency received the 2014 Erie Insurance Giving Network Agency of the Year Award for its exceptional commitment to community service; and
WHEREAS, encouraging all of his employees to donate their time and talents to strengthen the community, John Alderson sits on the organizing committee for the proposed Botetourt County YMCA, is a member of the local Rotary Club, and is director of the Botetourt County Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the nation, John Alderson accepted an appointment from President Ronald Reagan to serve as administrator of general services in 1988; he had previously served in various capacities at the General Services Administration; and
WHEREAS, a man who lives his faith through his actions, John Alderson enjoys fellowship and worship with the community as an active member of his church, where he serves as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and member of the finance committee; he also supports Gideons International and International Christian Centers for the Deaf; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That John Alderson, a pillar of the Botetourt County community, hereby be commended for his lifetime of service; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Alderson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the community, the Commonwealth, and the United States.
