Commending Frank Green.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Frank Green, a reporter with the Richmond Times-Dispatch, received the 2015 Innocence Network Journalism Award, for his work to help exonerate an innocent man who had served nearly 30 years in prison; and

WHEREAS, Frank Green has covered police, courts, prisons, and other issues for the Richmond Times-Dispatch for more than 35 years; and

WHEREAS, in 2002, Frank Green was contacted by the mother of Michael McAlister, who had been wrongfully convicted of multiple crimes in 1986 and was no longer being represented by a lawyer; and

WHEREAS, Frank Green’s reporting brought regional and national attention to the case and helped uncover evidence that led to Michael McAlister’s release and full pardon in May 2015; and

WHEREAS, Frank Green will be presented with the 2015 Innocence Network Journalism Award at the Innocence Network’s national conference in San Antonio, Texas, in April 2016; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Frank Green hereby be commended on receiving the 2015 Innocence Network Journalism Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank Green as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his commitment to journalistic excellence and helping others in need.
