HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 182
Commending Terry Howard.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Terry Howard, who admirably served the residents of Chincoteague with great distinction for 32 years as a member of the Chincoteague Town Council and was respected by many people for his experience and expertise, retired in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Terry Howard’s work for local government began in the 1970s, when he was asked to serve on the Chincoteague Planning Commission; he was a member of the commission for six years before being elected to the Town Council in 1982; and

WHEREAS, throughout his 32-year tenure as a member of the Chincoteague Town Council, Terry Howard always strove to do what was in the best interests of the Eastern Shore locality and its residents, and he listened carefully to the issues that were presented to the council; and

WHEREAS, fellow members of the Chincoteague Town Council and residents of the town admired Terry Howard’s thoughtful attention to all the matters that came before the town’s elected leaders, and he was well-regarded for his pragmatism, dedication, and sincerity; and

WHEREAS, Terry Howard, who is a native of Chincoteague, worked on the water for a number of years and was a painter before he entered public service; he is also a gardener who willingly shares his produce with neighbors and enjoys a reputation for growing some of the best tomatoes in the area; and

WHEREAS, shortly before he retired, Terry Howard was honored with a reception in his honor at which many local leaders and citizens paid tribute to his distinguished service, and at his last meeting as a member of the Chincoteague Town Council, he advised the council members to be forthright and do what is best for the community they all treasure; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Terry Howard hereby be commended for 32 years of admirable service as a member of the Chincoteague Town Council; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Terry Howard as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for his leadership and dedication to the people of Chincoteague.
