Commending Anthony J. Muñoz, M.D.

WHEREAS, Anthony J. Muñoz, M.D., has touched countless lives throughout the Commonwealth and the world over the course of his long and fulfilling career in the field of medicine; and

WHEREAS, a native of Spain and a survivor of the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939), Dr. Muñoz studied and practiced medicine in Spain, France, and New Jersey, before he settled in Farmville in 1962; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Muñoz has served the community of Farmville as a thoracic surgeon for 33 years, pioneering many surgical procedures during his 25-year tenure at Southside Community Hospital, where he was the first doctor elected to the hospital’s board; and

WHEREAS, as president of the Farmville Jaycees, Dr. Muñoz conducted the first county-wide oral polio vaccine initiative in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Muñoz has been a leader and member of many medical and community service organizations; he served as team physician for the Hampden-Sydney College football team and was a founding physician of the Heart of Virginia Free Clinic; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Muñoz has worked to educate and support medical professionals in the Commonwealth through many statewide institutions and organizations, including as a clinical professor at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Muñoz has contributed to the scope of medical knowledge by publishing a number of journal articles in the United States and Spain; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Anthony J. Muñoz, M.D., a talented physician and invaluable public servant, hereby be commended for his service to the residents of Farmville and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Anthony J. Muñoz, M.D., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for his contributions to the field of medicine in the Commonwealth, the United States, and the world.
