HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 178 Offered February 29, 2016 Commending the Briar Woods High School boys' swim team. ---------- Patron-- Greason ----------

WHEREAS, the Briar Woods High School boys’ swim team capped off an undefeated season by winning the 2015 - 2016 Virginia High School League Conference 14 championship, the school’s first conference title in boys’ swimming; and

WHEREAS, the hardworking swimmers from Briar Woods High School in Loudoun County competed against four other area schools at the Conference 14 meet, which was held on January 30, 2015, in Sterling; the Briar Woods Falcons scored 294 points to win the meet; and

WHEREAS, a core group of swimmers on the Briar Woods High School team helped propel the team to victory; the young men have been actively involved with the Falcons’ swim program for several years; and

WHEREAS, Briar Woods High School junior Jackson Lucas set a Conference 14 meet record in the 100-yard backstroke, with a winning time of 53.08 seconds; and

WHEREAS, several swimmers on the Briar Woods High School boys’ team won in both individual races and team relays; sophomores Stuart Pliuskaitis and Cameron McConagha won first and second place, respectively, in the 200-yard individual medley; and

WHEREAS, Stuart Pliuskaitis then teamed up with junior Mal McGann, sophomore Thomas Moore, and Jackson Lucas to win the 400-yard freestyle relay, and Mal McGann took first place in the 500-yard freestyle; with the conference victory, the team advanced to regional competition the following weekend; and

WHEREAS, the talented and focused members of the Briar Woods High School boys’ swim team were guided and led by head coach Eric Bateman throughout the season, and they received strong support from their families, friends, and the school community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Briar Woods High School boys’ swim team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 - 2016 Virginia High School League Conference 14 championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eric Bateman, head coach of the Briar Woods High School boys’ swim team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the team’s outstanding performance and record-setting championship season.
