Commending the Briar Woods High School girls' swim team.

WHEREAS, the Briar Woods High School girls’ swim team was undefeated during the 2015 - 2016 regular season, and capped it off by winning the Virginia High School League Conference 14 championship on January 30, 2016; and

WHEREAS, the talented swimmers from Briar Woods High School in Ashburn defeated four other teams at the Conference 14 meet, with a winning score of 338 points, thereby advancing to the Virginia High School League Group 5A North Region championship meet; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated and hardworking swimmers from Briar Woods High School in Loudoun County combined to claim six individual titles and two relay victories at the Conference 14 swim meet; and

WHEREAS, Camryn Barry, a junior at Briar Woods High School, set meet records in the 50-yard freestyle race, with a time of 0:24.10, and the 100-yard freestyle competition, where her record-setting time was 0:52.12; and

WHEREAS, Briar Woods High School sophomore Bethany Gatlin won the 200-yard individual medley, setting a Conference 14 record with a time of 2:08.69—five seconds faster than the previous meet record; and

WHEREAS, freshman Madison Gupton set a meet record in the 500-yard freestyle race, with a time of 5:14.37—more than five seconds faster than the previous record; teammate Cassie Holstein, a sophomore, was only a half second behind her; and

WHEREAS, relay swimmers Yuka Kuwahara, a senior, and Camryn Barry, Bethany Gatlin, and Jordan Wenner won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.33, and the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:37.94; and

WHEREAS, the head coach of the Briar Woods High School girls’ swim team, Eric Bateman, cited the team’s depth and talent as strong factors in the group’s impressive victory, and he expects the school to be a strong contender in the future; and

WHEREAS, throughout the season, the members of the Briar Woods High School girls’ swim team were greatly supported by their families, friends, and the entire school community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Briar Woods High School girls’ swim team hereby be commended for winning the 2015 - 2016 Virginia High School League Conference 14 championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Eric Bateman, head coach of the Briar Woods High School girls’ swim team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for the team’s outstanding performance and championship season.
