Celebrating the life of Richard Earl Anderson.

WHEREAS, Richard Earl Anderson, a respected entrepreneur and a skilled aviator who made many contributions to the Roanoke community, died on January 28, 2016; and

WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Richard “Dick” Earl Anderson honorably served his country as a member of the newly formed United States Air Force from 1948 to 1951, serving in Washington state and on the Alaskan frontier; and

WHEREAS, Dick Anderson helped members of the community start their mornings with delicious doughnuts and coffee as a manager of franchise locations of the Krispy Kreme Doughnut company in Roanoke and Wilmington, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, admired for his skill as a private pilot, Dick Anderson rebuilt and restored a Beechcraft Staggerwing biplane, tail number N722MD, a light utility aircraft that was used as an improvised bomber and a courier craft during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Dick Anderson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Dwana Sue; children, Richard, Mary Rutledge, and Robert Gerald, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Richard Earl Anderson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard Earl Anderson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
