HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 16 Offered January 13, 2016 Prefiled December 5, 2015 Celebrating the life of Everett Worrell, Jr. ---------- Patron-- Morris ----------

WHEREAS, Everett Worrell, Jr., one of Prince George County’s oldest World War II veterans and a respected member of the community, died at the age of 92 on May 3, 2015; and

WHEREAS, joining many of the other young men of his generation in service to his country, Everett Worrell was a member of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; and

WHEREAS, Everett Worrell served as a pilot and flight commander with the 532nd Bomb Squadron of the 381st Bomb Group at Royal Air Force Station Ridgewell in England; he bravely flew 35 missions over Europe in a B-17 Flying Fortress; and

WHEREAS, possessed of a desire to continue serving and defending his country, Everett Worrell joined the United States Air Force after the war; he retired as a major after a distinguished 27-year military career; and

WHEREAS, using his experience in communications, Everett Worrell was one of the first television repairmen in Richmond and a longtime member of the Military Auxiliary Radio System, a program that utilizes amateur radio operators to provide emergency communications in times of need; and

WHEREAS, supporting and honoring the sacrifices of his fellow veterans, Everett Worrell regularly attended local Veterans Day and Memorial Day events; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Hazel, Everett Worrell will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughters, Elizabeth, Anne, Linda, and Rebecca, and their families and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow service members; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Everett Worrell, Jr., a respected veteran and a man of character in Prince George County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Everett Worrell, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
