2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Robert G. Moore III has served as pastor of Bonsack Baptist Church for nearly four decades, ably guiding the church through periods of growth and transition with his steady leadership and commitment to spreading the message of God’s love; and
WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Robert Moore earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and master’s and doctoral degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Robert Moore first answered the call to ministry as an associate pastor of a Baptist congregation in Ohio; he came to Roanoke as pastor of Bonsack Baptist Church in 1976, when the church had recently relocated and had a congregation of only approximately 565 members; and
WHEREAS, Robert Moore helped Bonsack Baptist Church become a congregation of more than 2,400 people; with his stewardship, weekly attendance increased from approximately 225 people to 1,000 people, and the church’s budget increased from $65,000 to $2,750,000; and
WHEREAS, guiding the church through an unprecedented period of growth, Robert Moore oversaw the construction of a larger sanctuary, an education building, a children’s ministry building, and a multipurpose building with a welcome center, fellowship hall, gymnasium, classrooms, and activity rooms; and
WHEREAS, under Robert Moore’s leadership, Bonsack Baptist Church has expanded vital ministries and outreach programs to the entire Roanoke community and the church has earned statewide recognition as a flagship congregation in the Baptist General Association of Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Robert G. Moore III hereby be commended for his exceptional leadership of Bonsack Baptist Church on the occasion of his retirement as pastor; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert G. Moore III as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the Bonsack Baptist Church congregation and the entire Roanoke community.
