HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 125 Commending Alice Carol Maitland.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 12, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Alice Carol Maitland of Alberta, a dedicated public official who has served and strengthened the community over the course of her long career in local government, retired as treasurer of Brunswick County on November 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Brunswick County, Alice Maitland learned the value of hard work and responsibility while growing up on her family’s dairy farm in Danieltown; after completing her education, she embarked upon a fulfilling career in local government; and

WHEREAS, Alice Maitland served as clerk and treasurer for the Town of Alberta from 1978 to 1982, when she became mayor; she later owned and operated an accounting business in Alberta, served as a tax preparer in Lawrenceville, and served as treasurer and as a board member of Brunswick Health Care, Inc., for many years; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to her fellow Brunswick County residents, Alice Maitland ran for and was elected county treasurer, serving consecutive terms from 1987 to 2015; she was certified as a governmental treasurer by the University of Virginia in 2002; and

WHEREAS, as treasurer, Alice Maitland worked to increase efficiency and built trust and respect with the members of the community by making customer service a priority; she ably served all residents of Brunswick County with integrity, honesty, and fairness; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Alice Maitland enjoys fellowship and worship with the community as an active member of New Hope Christian Church, where she plays piano and serves as choir director; and

WHEREAS, after her well-earned retirement, Alice Maitland plans to seek new opportunities to serve the community and spend more time with her beloved family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Alice Carol Maitland hereby be commended for her decades of public service on the occasion of her retirement as treasurer of Brunswick County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alice Carol Maitland as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her many contributions to the Brunswick County community and best wishes for a happy retirement.
