HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 109
Celebrating the life of Charles Morris Terry, Jr.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 5, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Charles Morris Terry, Jr., a financial professional who was dedicated to his clients and a hardworking community leader in Richmond, died on May 9, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a lifetime resident of Richmond, Charles Terry graduated from St. Christopher’s School, where he was the captain of a state champion basketball team and was a standout varsity tennis player; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to his country, Charles Terry joined many of the other young men of his generation in service to the nation as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable military service, Charles Terry earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia; he was a lifelong fan of the Cavaliers athletics programs, particularly the football and basketball teams; and

WHEREAS, Charles Terry served his fellow Richmond residents as a certified public accountant and financial advisor; he founded Charles M. Terry & Company and worked with clients until late in his life; and

WHEREAS, working to strengthen the Richmond community, Charles Terry offered his time and leadership to many civic and service organizations; he was a longtime member of the West Richmond Rotary Club, president of the West Richmond Businessmen’s Association, chair of the Richmond City Audit Committee and City Industrial Authority, and president of Richmond Cotillion; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep faith, Charles Terry enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of St. James’s Episcopal Church, where he served as a vestryman and treasurer; and

WHEREAS, Charles Terry will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Johnnie Lou; daughters, Constance and Laura, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles Morris Terry, Jr., a respected financial professional in Richmond; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Morris Terry, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
