HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 104
Commending Sam Oravec.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 5, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Sam Oravec of Fauquier County has earned the national Distinguished Expert award for air rifle in the Winchester/National Rifle Association Marksmanship Qualification Program; and

WHEREAS, the riflery program is sponsored by the John D. Sudduth American Legion Post 72 in Warrenton and Fauquier County 4-H Youth Development; Sam Oravec is a member of the Post’s junior shooting sports program; and

WHEREAS, the American Legion Junior Shooting Sports Program is a gun safety education and marksmanship program consisting of a basic marksmanship course, qualification awards, and an air rifle competition; and

WHEREAS, Sam Oravec was ably coached by Claude Davenport and Mike Freeman, who offered guidance and support during his practices and at competitions; the coaches help their students focus, concentrate, and develop expert shooting skills by reinforcing their personal accomplishments and providing constructive input; and

WHEREAS, Sam Oravec and his fellow competitors are highly motivated during rifle practices and at contests, demonstrating high degrees of focus and skill often seen at professional sharpshooting competitions; and

WHEREAS, to be named a Distinguished Expert by the Winchester/National Rifle Association Marksmanship Qualification Program, Sam Oravec scored a minimum of 500 points—out of a possible 600 points—in 10 air rifle competitions; and

WHEREAS, Sam Oravec has greatly enjoyed the sport; the concentration required to excel at marksmanship has other benefits—he also competes in track and field, and his ability to concentrate has helped him prepare for races, calm his nerves, and improve his times; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Sam Oravec hereby be commended for earning the national Distinguished Expert award for air rifle in the Winchester/National Rifle Association Marksmanship Qualification Program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sam Oravec as an expression of the House of Delegates’ congratulations and admiration for his outstanding accomplishment and dedication to the sport of shooting.
