2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Calvary Baptist Church in Smithfield celebrated 25 years of spiritual leadership, generous community outreach, and joyful worship in the Baptist tradition in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Calvary Baptist Church was founded by the Reverend Dan E. Gray and his wife, Myra, who held prayer meetings in their home for many weeks, seeking inspiration on the creation of a new church community in Isle of Wight County; and
WHEREAS, Calvary Baptist Church held its first worship services in the Carrollton Ruritan Club building on August 5, 1990; the church was officially chartered and adopted its constitution and by-laws in 1991; and
WHEREAS, that same year, Calvary Baptist Church purchased 10 acres of land on Turner Drive for the construction of a permanent house of worship; over the years the church has expanded the facility to better serve the growing congregation and enable greater opportunities for ministry; and
WHEREAS, Calvary Baptist Church commemorated its 25th anniversary with a special celebration and worship service on August 2, 2015; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Calvary Baptist Church in Smithfield hereby be commended on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Dan E. Gray, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the church’s many contributions to the Smithfield community.
