Celebrating the life of Allen Oat Woody III.

WHEREAS, Allen Oat Woody III of Roanoke, a respected business leader and entrepreneur who proudly dedicated his life to the service of others, died on July 13, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Allen Woody was raised in Rocky Mount, where he graduated from Franklin County High School and earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America; and

WHEREAS, Allen Woody earned a bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College, where he made his first foray into entrepreneurship by developing a business through which parents could send care packages to students; he also began a lifelong membership of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, serving as social chair, steward, and archon; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from college, Allen Woody continued to faithfully serve the Xi Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi as chapter advisor for more than three decades; he also served as a regional governor, member of the national council, and chair of the Pi Kappa Phi Foundation and was named Mr. Pi Kappa Phi in 2007; and

WHEREAS, known as a strong and inspiring leader, Allen Woody experienced his greatest business success as president of a precious metals reclamation and fabrication company, and he continued to explore new business opportunities even after his well-earned retirement; and

WHEREAS, Allen Woody worked to enhance the quality of life of his fellow Roanoke Valley residents, joining the board of Feeding America Southwest Virginia, where he helped obtain a $60,000 grant for the food bank through an online fundraising campaign; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man and a loyal friend, Allen Woody will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Dianne; children, Jennifer and Victor, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, colleagues, and fraternity brothers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Allen Oat Woody III, an admired entrepreneur and philanthropist in Roanoke; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Allen Oat Woody III as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
