HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 68
Commending the Colonial Heights High School boys' volleyball team.

WHEREAS, the Colonial Heights High School boys’ volleyball team won the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship on November 20, 2015, the school’s first state championship victory in 29 years; and

WHEREAS, the Colonial Heights Colonials defeated the reigning state champion Midlothian High School Trojans 3 - 1 in a tense competition at the Siegel Center in Richmond; the Colonials won the first, third, and fourth sets to take home Colonial Heights High School’s first state title in any sport since 1986; and

WHEREAS, after achieving a perfect record in the 2014 regular season and Blake Cox, Colonial Heights senior, being named the 2014 Virginia High School League 3A/4A State Player of the Year, the Colonial Heights Colonials fell to Midlothian, who went on to win the 2014 state title; the Colonials opened the 2015 season with a win against Midlothian and bested them in the Group 4A regional game before defeating them once again in the state final; and

WHEREAS, the Colonial Heights High School Colonials earned a host of awards and accolades for the successful season, earning multiple spots on conference, regional, and state teams; Noah Murdock was named the Conference, Region, and State Player of the Year; Stuart Crinkley and Tyler Gingrich were named 1st Team all-Conference, all-Region, and all-State; Noah Sears, Noah Bryant, Cameron Cox, and Dante Jennings were named 1st Team all-Conference and 2nd Team all-Region; and Mark Lee was named Conference, Region, and State Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the dedication of each of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the energetic support of the entire Colonial Heights High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Colonial Heights High School boys’ volleyball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Lee, head coach of the Colonial Heights boys’ volleyball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s hard work and skill.
