WHEREAS, in 2015, SCORE Hampton Roads celebrated 50 years of promoting responsible growth in the region by advising and supporting local small businesses in the Cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1965, SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) Hampton Roads serves start-up companies and existing businesses; the organization is a chapter of the SCORE Association, which has helped thousands of clients nationwide; and
WHEREAS, SCORE Hampton Roads has worked with hundreds of clients, offering free, confidential mentoring sessions, either face-to-face, online, or by phone, to impart real-world knowledge to business owners; and
WHEREAS, the mentors at SCORE Hampton Roads include engineers, educators, bankers, accountants, technology specialists, and media and marketing professionals, many of whom have built and operated their own businesses in the region; and
WHEREAS, SCORE Hampton Roads has taken a special interest in members of the military, with programs to help veterans leverage benefits to reintegrate into civilian life by growing their own small businesses; and
WHEREAS, SCORE Hampton Roads also works with other local organizations, including economic development agencies, and the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide the highest-quality services and expertise; and
WHEREAS, to commemorate its 50th anniversary, SCORE Hampton Roads profiled and highlighted the successes of one or more clients in each issue of the organization’s monthly newsletter from April to December 2015; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend SCORE Hampton Roads for its work to strengthen and enhance the region on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bob Brooks, chair of SCORE Hampton Roads, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the organization’s diligent service to the region’s business community.
