HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 53
Celebrating the life of Thomas S. Herbert VII.

WHEREAS, Thomas S. Herbert VII, a public servant, successful entrepreneur, and generous community leader in Ashland, died on December 15, 2015; and

WHEREAS, a native of Ashland, Thomas “Tommy” S. Herbert VII graduated from Patrick Henry High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland; and

WHEREAS, possessed of an entrepreneurial spirit, Tommy Herbert was co-owner of Herbert Insurance Agency with his wife and father; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Tommy Herbert ran for and was elected to the Ashland Town Council, serving from 1996 to 2000, including a two-year term as mayor; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Herbert volunteered his time and leadership with the Boy Scouts of America, Hanover Humane Society, Ashland Kiwanis Club, and Relay for Life; he also helped provide opportunities for local youth as a coach for multiple sports teams; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by one daughter, Holly, Tommy Herbert cared deeply for his family, and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Michele; children, Hannah, Bailey, Thomas, and Curtis; his parents, William and Patsy; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Thomas S. Herbert VII, a public servant, entrepreneur, and active member of the Ashland community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Thomas S. Herbert VII as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
