2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Albert K. Rawley, Jr., who has admirably served as a member of the Danville City Council and made many other valued contributions to the community, will step down from his elected position in 2016, after 10 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, Albert K. “Buddy” Rawley, Jr., was first appointed to the Danville City Council in 2002 to fill an unexpired term; he served until 2004, when he accepted an employment position in North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Rawley, who graduated from Averett University in 1975, returned to Danville in 2006; he was elected to the Danville City Council in 2008 and has held the position since then, always striving to do what was in the best interests of the city’s residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, before moving to North Carolina, Buddy Rawley worked for Dan River Inc., as director of apparel customer service and account executive for southeastern sales; currently, he is vice president for institutional advancement at Averett University; and
WHEREAS, an active member of many community groups, Buddy Rawley serves on the board of the Dan River Business Development Center, Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Inc., and the West Piedmont Planning District Commission; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Rawley also is an active member of the Riverview Rotary Club; he is a former board member and past president of the Danville Family YMCA and past chair of the Advisory Board for the Department of Clothing and Textiles at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Rawley has derived great pleasure from serving the people of Danville in both an elected capacity and as a community leader and is proud of how the city continues to move forward; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Albert K. Rawley, Jr., for his dedicated service as a member of the Danville City Council for 10 years; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Albert K. Rawley, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for his outstanding leadership and many years of service to Danville and the Commonwealth.
