HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 526
Commending the George Washington University School of Nursing.

WHEREAS, the George Washington University School of Nursing celebrated its fifth anniversary in 2015 by opening a new, cutting-edge simulation hospital in Loudoun County to provide students with opportunities for hands-on learning; and

WHEREAS, the George Washington University School of Nursing was founded in 2010 and has doubled its enrollment in its first five years, earning accolades as one of the top 50 nursing schools in the country from U.S. News & World Report; and

WHEREAS, the George Washington University School of Nursing is a national leader in online programs; it has also increased educational access for military service members and built strong partnerships with community colleges in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the new Johnson Lab at the George Washington University School of Nursing, a 3,000-square-foot virtual hospital populated by static and mid-fidelity mannequins, has further enhanced the school’s curriculum by creating a bridge between classroom learning and real-life clinical experience; and

WHEREAS, featuring a control room, where faculty can observe students without affecting their decisions, the Johnson Lab allows students to learn from complex, realistic scenarios in a safe environment and gain experience that will help them better serve their patients; and

WHEREAS, the George Washington University School of Nursing commemorated its fifth anniversary with other special events, including a discussion on health care reform and an anniversary reception in November 2015; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the George Washington University School of Nursing on the occasion of its fifth anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pamela R. Jeffries, dean of the George Washington University School of Nursing, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s commitment to students and contributions to the field of nursing.
