HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 523
Commending W. T. Woodson High School.

WHEREAS, W. T. Woodson High School, an exceptional public secondary school in Fairfax County, received a 2015 Blue Ribbon Award from the Virginia Music Educators Association; and

WHEREAS, the Blue Ribbon Award is the highest honor presented by the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA); the award is presented to schools with band, choir, and orchestra programs that have achieved a Superior rating from the VMEA; and

WHEREAS, to qualify for the prestigious award the W. T. Woodson High School band, choir, and orchestra programs all achieved Superior ratings based on the ensembles’ best-performing groups at district festivals; and

WHEREAS, like all Blue Ribbon Award winners, the W. T. Woodson High School band, choir, and orchestra programs all performed two pieces from approved graded music lists; and

WHEREAS, W. T. Woodson High School previously received the Blue Ribbon Award in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend W. T. Woodson High School on receiving a Blue Ribbon Award from the Virginia Music Educators Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Scott Poole, principal of W. T. Woodson High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s commitment to academic excellence.
