Commending Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital in Alexandria has provided a vast array of health care services to the citizens of Northern Virginia for 40 years through its acute care and emergency department services, as well as orthopedic and rehabilitation services; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital opened its doors on October 26, 1976, as a 235-bed acute care hospital; and

WHEREAS, in 2015 Inova Mount Vernon Hospital was ranked the sixth Best Hospital in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area by U.S. News & World Report; and

WHEREAS, since 1986, the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities has bestowed full three-year accreditations upon Inova Rehabilitation Center for both its inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital houses a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, including “Easy Street,” a city street replica offering simulations of real-life settings to help patients recovering from strokes and brain and spinal cord injuries develop skills to regain self-sufficiency; and

WHEREAS, each year, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital treats nearly 1,000 people in Northern Virginia through their inpatient rehabilitation program and more than 700 people in outpatient rehabilitation; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital has been designated a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, the national accrediting organization for hospitals; the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval recognizes facilities that make exceptional efforts to meet the unique needs of stroke patients and foster better outcomes for stroke care; and

WHEREAS, U.S. News & World Report has also rated Inova Mount Vernon Hospital “high performing” in knee replacement in the U.S. News Common Care ratings; these ratings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide on common inpatient procedures and conditions, with only approximately 10 percent of the hospitals earning the “high performing” rating; and

WHEREAS, Inova Joint Replacement Center has also earned a Gold Seal of Approval for outstanding care in joint replacement procedures from the Joint Commission; Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is one of only six programs in Virginia to receive this distinction; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is home to the Dorothea R. Fisher Wound Healing Center, the first specialized resource for wound healing in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital operates the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy program, the only program in Northern Virginia accredited by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and one of just 600 in the United States to carry this quality accreditation; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital provides a wide range of surgical, medical, and critical care services including cardiac rehabilitation, behavioral health, oncology, emergency medicine, breast health, and dialysis care; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is currently a 237-bed hospital with a staff of approximately 1,015 people, with 532 affiliated physicians who treated patients in 11,117 inpatient admissions, 2,826 inpatient surgeries, 1,443 outpatient surgeries, and 42,437 emergency department visits during 2015; and

WHEREAS, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is dedicated to serving the community by providing high-quality, patient-centered care; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for 40 years of outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of the citizens of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its dedication in establishing and maintaining a high standard for health care in Virginia.
