HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 481
Commending John Risher, M.D.

WHEREAS, John Risher, M.D., a proud alumnus of the University of Virginia who has served as a statistician for the university’s football team since the 1960s, celebrated his 105th birthday on May 11, 2015; and

WHEREAS, John Risher was born in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, in 1910 and relocated to Charlottesville with his family when he was young; and

WHEREAS, John Risher saw his first University of Virginia Cavaliers football game in 1919 and got his first job selling concessions at Lambeth Field; he attended the University of Virginia and played one game for the Cavaliers, making him the oldest living member of the football team; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from the University of Virginia, John Risher settled in Lynchburg and served the community as an otolaryngologist; and

WHEREAS, in the 1960s, John Risher helped fill in for the University of Virginia’s sports information director at a football game in North Carolina, and he has served the team from the press box as a statistician ever since; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John Risher, M.D., for his service to the University of Virginia on the occasion of his 105th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Risher, M.D., as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations and best wishes.
