Commending Clare Williams.

WHEREAS, Clare Williams has ably served the Lake Gaston community as a board member of the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association and worked to promote the area’s unique historic, recreational, scenic, and cultural attractions; and

WHEREAS, the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association was established in 1998 as a volunteer organization to promote existing tourism in the area and advocate for responsible development of new attractions and events; and

WHEREAS, with the leadership and hard work of volunteers like Clare Williams, the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association established and coordinated numerous festivals and events that celebrated local culture and attracted visitors to the area, including events celebrating the county’s namesake Brunswick Stew; and

WHEREAS, the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association also worked with local, regional, and state officials to strengthen the community and helped develop the Fort Christanna Historical Site and obtain a State Scenic River designation for the Meherrin River; and

WHEREAS, the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association turned over all activities and duties to Brunswick County in March 2016 to better ensure the continued growth and stewardship of tourism in the area; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Clare Williams for her work with the Brunswick County/Lake Gaston Tourism Association; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clare Williams as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to the Lake Gaston community.
