HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 473
Commending the Carlisle School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Carlisle School girls’ basketball team of Martinsville claimed the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state title in February 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Carlisle School Chiefs bested the top-seeded Williamsburg Christian Academy Eagles by a score of 60 - 39 in the state championship, which was held at St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Charlottesville; and

WHEREAS, after recovering from an early deficit, the Carlisle School Chiefs dominated play with their stifling defense, which forced numerous turnovers; on the offensive side, senior Miranda Crockett led the game with 22 points; and

WHEREAS, the win was the Carlisle School Chiefs’ fifth state championship overall and the team’s first since 2008; and

WHEREAS, the successful season was a testament to the hard work and dedication of all of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Carlisle School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Carlisle School girls’ basketball team on winning the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state championship in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mancino Craighead, head coach of the Carlisle School girls’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s accomplishments and best wishes for the future.
