HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 443 Commending the Honorable Allen H. Harrison, Jr.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Allen H. Harrison, Jr., a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and a respected community leader in Northern Virginia, retired from the Arlington County Electoral Board after 29 years of continuous service; and

WHEREAS, Allen Harrison, who holds undergraduate and legal degrees from The George Washington University, has served the Arlington community for more than 50 years, including as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, where he represented the residents of the 22nd District, which at the time included all of Arlington County; and

WHEREAS, Allen Harrison joined the Arlington County Electoral Board in 1987 and has served as secretary, vice chair, and chair for several terms; he has offered his leadership and expertise to the Virginia Electoral Board Association and represented the Commonwealth on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission Standards Board; and

WHEREAS, known as a gentleman’s gentleman, Allen Harrison consistently demonstrated patience and professionalism in his interactions with colleagues, local officials, and voters, and helped ensure the integrity and effective operation of all Arlington County elections; and

WHEREAS, Allen Harrison has worked to strengthen and enhance the community as president of the Woodlawn Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association and chair of the Arlington Committee of 100, Arlington County Taxpayer’s Association, and Arlington County Republican Committee; and

WHEREAS, Allen Harrison also practiced law with the firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C., and the Law Offices of Allen H. Harrison, Jr., in Arlington, with a focus on railroad law and trademark law; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable Allen H. Harrison, Jr., on the occasion of his retirement from the Arlington County Electoral Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Allen H. Harrison, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his service to the residents of Arlington County and the Commonwealth.
