HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 437
Commending the Carroll County High School girls' basketball team.

WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School girls’ basketball team claimed the program’s first conference title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A Conference 24 championship in February 2016; and

WHEREAS, after finishing the regular season 20 - 1, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers defeated the William Fleming High School Colonels by a score of 69 - 54 to secure the Conference 24 title; and

WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers held the lead for the majority of the conference championship, outscoring the Colonels 25 - 15 in the final period; and

WHEREAS, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers finished the game with 19 of 25 from the free throw line, and junior Mattie Kennedy led the team with 23 points overall; and

WHEREAS, after a strong showing in the regional tournament, the Carroll County High School Cavaliers clinched a berth in the Virginia High School League Group 4A state tournament in March 2016; and

WHEREAS, the Cavaliers’ successful season is a testament to the hard work and determination of all of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the energetic support of the entire Carroll County High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Carroll County High School girls’ basketball team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A Conference 24 championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marc Motley, head coach of the Carroll County High School girls’ basketball team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s accomplishments and best wishes for the future.
