WHEREAS, in November 1945, Robert Brown, Sr., and Julia Mathis Brown met outside a local store in McCormick, South Carolina, where they fell in love at first sight; and

WHEREAS, Robert and Julia Brown were married on April 20, 1946, and their family grew quickly; they relocated to Richmond in 1950 for a fresh start, and after arriving in Richmond they sought a church home and together became members of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, where they have served faithfully since 1952; and

WHEREAS, in 1941, during World War II, Robert Brown enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with valor and honor, and was honorably discharged in 1945; and

WHEREAS, Julia Brown has always been passionate about serving others; in the late 1950s, she began a career as a daycare provider for children, an endeavor she continues to enjoy today; and

WHEREAS, Robert and Julia Brown are the proud and loving parents of six children, of whom two are deceased; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Robert and Julia Brown work together in local volunteer activities and are members of many organizations, seeking diligently to enhance the quality of life of the community; and

WHEREAS, Robert and Julia Brown have depended on the love of God and family to strengthen and sustain them through the years, and they continue to love each other as much as they did when they first met; and

WHEREAS, on April 23, 2016, family and friends will join with Robert and Julia Brown to help them celebrate 70 years of wedded bliss; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Robert Brown, Sr., and Julia Mathis Brown on the occasion of their 70th wedding anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Brown, Sr., and Julia Mathis Brown, as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations on their 70th wedding anniversary.
