HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 411
Commending the Rural Retreat High School wrestling team.

WHEREAS, the Rural Retreat High School wrestling team capped off a successful season by claiming its third consecutive state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 1A state championship in February 2016; and

WHEREAS, the Rural Retreat High School Indians bested the second-place Rappahannock County High School Panthers with an impressive score of 121.5 in the state finals at Salem Civic Center; and

WHEREAS, Trey Boyd recorded the Rural Retreat High School Indians’ first individual win of the tournament, earning his third state title; and

WHEREAS, Josh Wynn ended a 33 - 1 season with his second consecutive individual state title and Leighton Powell earned his first state title with a dramatic 4 - 2 victory; and

WHEREAS, the Rural Retreat High School Indians finished the night with eight individual champions, with Harley Mitchell, Jacob Wynn, Trent O’Neil, Caleb Snider, and Ethan Martin also claiming state titles; and

WHEREAS, the successful season is a tribute to the hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Rural Retreat High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Rural Retreat High School wrestling team on winning the Virginia High School League Group 1A state title; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rick Boyd, head coach of the Rural Retreat High School wrestling team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s skill and dedication.
