HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 384
Commending Central High School.

WHEREAS, Central High School in Woodstock was honored as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Central High School is one of only 35 public high schools to receive a National Blue Ribbon Award; the program recognizes schools throughout the nation whose students have either achieved very high learning standards or are making notable improvements to close an achievement gap; and

WHEREAS, Central High School received National Blue Ribbon recognition for being an Exemplary High Performance School; the entire school community is extremely proud of its 96.5 percent average graduation rate during the last two years; and

WHEREAS, the Shenandoah County school enrolls approximately 785 students and embraces an inclusive philosophy; its student population has become increasingly diverse, and the faculty and staff strive to ensure that student needs are at the forefront of all decisions; and

WHEREAS, Central High School’s administrative team has implemented a collaborative learning environment where students are part of the instructional process; staff work to facilitate the educational process and assist students in an inquiry-based educational setting; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of the dedicated faculty and staff of Central High School have contributed to a high level of performance and achievement among students; more than 80 percent of seniors enter college or trade school upon graduation, and eight percent enlist in the United States military; and

WHEREAS, the sense of unity fostered by Central High School’s commitment to inclusiveness and student excellence has also resulted in a community that respects and appreciates the contributions and achievements of those around it; and

WHEREAS, at Central High School, students and staff thrive in a collaborative atmosphere that is designed to prepare students to succeed in college and their careers in an increasingly global world; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Central High School for being named a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the principal Melissa D. Hensley as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and admiration for the hard work and outstanding accomplishments of the faculty, staff, and students of Central High School.
