16105851DWHEREAS, Dana McLeod, who worked tirelessly to serve and support her fellow members of the Northern Virginia community as a performer, teacher, director, and choreographer and as a dedicated volunteer, died on November 16, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Dana McLeod was a professional actress, dancer, and musical theatre performer; she played roles as varied as Harpo Marx, Louise in the musical “Gypsy,” and Yosemite Sam, and she danced at Radio City Music Hall in a holiday extravaganza; and
WHEREAS, after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1999 and no longer being able to perform, Dana McLeod became a teacher, director, and choreographer; she spent many years working in the children’s theatre program at the Alden Theatre in McLean; and
WHEREAS, Dana McLeod’s perpetual smile and courage made her a natural role model for others living with multiple sclerosis; she volunteered to co-lead the Springfield area multiple sclerosis self-help group from 2008 until 2014; and
WHEREAS, Dana McLeod sought to improve the lives of others affected by multiple sclerosis; she spoke to her legislators about issues affecting those living with multiple sclerosis and advocated for change at local, state, and federal levels; she served as a valued member of the Virginia Government Relations Committee for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; and
WHEREAS, Dana McLeod will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her parents, Marilyn and Ken Murton; her brother, Kenneth Murton; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Dana McLeod, a respected volunteer in Northern Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dana McLeod as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
